The lampuki are back
The season opened on 15 August, and the first torta tal-lampuki came out of the oven two days later.
Every year on 15 August the boats of Marsaxlokk go out to the rafts for the lampuki, the dolphinfish that pass the islands at the end of summer. Matthew was on the quay at six to choose the first ones.
Until the end of the year you find them whole by weight at the fish counter, fried with a tomato and caper sauce in every house, and in the torta tal-lampuki with spinach, olives and capers.
